What to know.
Scott and Kathy Buente opened the first winery in Holmes County in 2001, near Killbuck in Ohio's Amish Country, and every wine still comes from grapes and fruit grown on their 23-acre estate. The list mixes dry reds such as Cabernet Franc with sweet and fruit wines. Homemade pizzas and appetizers run through the week, and Saturday nights bring full sit-down dinners. A covered deck sits over the vines, the owners stop at every table, and a cabin on the property has its own vineyard-view deck.
